A team of physicists at CIFICEN (CONICET–UNICEN–IFAS) researching the propagation of light in diffusive media, applied to biological systems and to the development of clinical devices.
Based in Tandil, the group has researched near-infrared spectroscopy and diffuse reflectance applied to biological tissue for over a decade. MamoRef is the clinical translation of that work.
Specialty: biomedical optics. Works on the continuation of the full-field diffuse reflectance NIR mammography project. PhD and BSc in Physics, Faculty of Exact Sciences (UNICEN). Was a visiting researcher at PTB (Berlin) and ICAT-UNAM (Mexico).
Trained within the GOB, where she published her first work in biomedical optics alongside Iriarte and Pomarico. Co-author of the MamoRef papers.
Specialty: photophysics and optics. Develops and validates dynamic phantoms that emulate the metabolic processes of tissue oxygenation, applied to optical mammography and fNIRS. PhD and BSc in Physics, Faculty of Exact Sciences (UNICEN).
Optimizes techniques to characterize the metabolic state of breast tissue using low-power red and infrared light. Directed by J. Pomarico and N. Carbone. PhD and BSc in Physics (UNICEN).
Specialty: biomedical optics. Studies light propagation in multilayered media applied to functional NIR spectroscopy, optical mammography, and fluorescence-guided surgery. PhD and BSc in Physics, Faculty of Exact Sciences (UNICEN).
Specialty: optics and photophysics applied to biological systems, interferometry, and optical fibers. PhD in Physics (Universidad Nacional de San Luis, 1993).
The GOB belongs to the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Exact Sciences (UNICEN), and is part of CIFICEN (CONICET–UNICEN–CICPBA). It is directed by Dr. Juan Pomarico.
Its general goal is the study of light propagation in diffusive media and its applications to biological systems and the development of clinical devices, split into two main lines: optical mammography (MamoRef) and functional organ monitoring via near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).
It maintains ongoing collaborations with PTB (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, Berlin, Germany), IRISA (Rennes, France), and Dartmouth College (United States).
